Increased levels of eIF4E are associated with poor prognosis in many cancer types including breast [45], melanoma [46], prostate [47], gallbladder [48], colorectal adenocarcinoma [49], and hepatocellular carcinoma [50] and correlate with advancing tumor grade in squamous cell carcinoma [51] and esophageal cancer [52].
