CCL23 and myocardial infarction: For example, it has been shown to act as both a monocyte chemoattractant and to stimulate the release of monocyte chemoattractant protein‐1 and tumor necrosis factor α from these cells.23 A specific role for CCL23 in ischemic heart disease is supported by increased expression in atherosclerotic lesions and in the circulation in patients with atherosclerosis,23 and by its association with cardiovascular outcomes.20 However, its role in MI has not previously been studied and this is the first study to our knowledge to suggest a direct link between IL‐6 signaling and CCL23.
