IL6 and acute myocardial infarction: Using the Mendelian randomization method, we previously demonstrated that IL‐6 has a causal role in coronary artery disease (CAD),1 findings that have recently been replicated using the phenome‐wide association approach.2 High circulating IL‐6 during and immediately after acute myocardial infarction (MI) is associated with myocardial injury, heart failure, and mortality3 and is a predictor of mortality in unstable CAD.4 IL‐6 is therefore considered a potential therapeutic target in CAD and MI.
