Furthermore, activation of the hypoxia-inducible transcription factor (HIF), which is a characteristic feature of malignant renal cell carcinoma (RCC), is shown to be related to HIF-dependent reactivation of dormant promoters that are embedded within ERV LTR at the transcriptional start site of a long non-coding RNA (PSOR1C3) gene upstream of POU5F1. This evidence concerns the gene POU5F1 and renal cell adenocarcinoma.
