VNN1 and Granuloma: Although this role in MTB infected mice has not been specifically studied, our results show that animals infected by these strains have a differential expression of Vanin-1 (both in the case of vaccine-exposed strains 46P and 48V), and this correlates with a decreased ability by the animals infected with these strains to form granulomas during the early phase of the disease (day 14) compared with animals infected by the original stock-strains (Supplementary Figure 6), and which limits granuloma size during the later stage (days 21–28).
