SHBG levels have been negatively correlated with insulin levels (85), and in a meta-analysis that included cross-sectional and prospective observational studies, Brand et al. found an inverse relationship between total testosterone and free testosterone with SHBG levels, and metabolic syndrome (86, 87) raising the question about the role that intracellular androgen binding protein levels play in endocrine cellular physiology. Here, SHBG is linked to metabolic syndrome.
