Several biochemical tests such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), insulin, and triglycerides have been studied in the context of diagnostic investigation of NAFLD, but such markers have been shown to exhibit low capacity to clearly identify patients with this condition [1,5,20,21]. This evidence concerns the gene GPT and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
