apoC-III is associated with hypertriglyceridemia via a number of pathways, including its action as an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) (the enzyme that metabolises TAGs from TRL to fatty acids and enables their clearance from the circulation) (Chan et al. 2008; Ioanna Gouni-Berthold 2017). This evidence concerns the gene LPL and hypertriglyceridemia.
