Together, these data indicate that CMV infection of CD14+/16− monocytes simultaneously induces the expression of multiple intracellular viral PRRs from the RLR, DAI, and NOD families while selectively down-regulating expression of surface scavenger receptors CD36 and MRC1, complement receptor 3, and TLR6, all of which have a demonstrated role in fungal pathogen recognition and clearance (table S4). This evidence concerns the gene CD14 and cytomegalovirus infection.
