Promising biomarkers like plasma levels of VEGF-A or vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2) [7,8], tissue markers like the VEGFR co-receptor neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) [9,10,11], single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in VEGF-A [12], deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) methylation signatures [13] or clinical markers like treatment-induced hypertension [12,14,15] failed to demonstrate clinical utility or reproducibility. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and hypertensive disorder.
