Miyamoto S. et al. (2008) reported that 3-(4-geranyloxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-2-trans-propenoyl-L-alanyl-L-proline (GAP), a derivative of ferulic acid, inhibited Azoxymethane (AOM)/Dextran Sodium Sulfate (DSS)-induced, colitis-related, colonic carcinogenesis through the modulation of cell proliferation, the reduction in inflammation, and the suppression of oxidative damage, enhancing the antioxidant enzyme HO-1, without any adverse effects in mice [31]. Here, HMOX1 is linked to colitis.
