It was previously reported [27,28] that late stage human melanoma cells exhibit features of autoinflammatory diseases, since they constitutively express NLRP3 inflammasome components (NLRP3 and ASC) that are needed for the cleavage and activation of caspase-1, essential for the production of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1β.
