In particular CRC cohorts displayed a higher viral diversity in CRC cohorts, with enrichment in members of the genera Orthobunyavirus, Inovirus and Tunalikevirus. Remarkably, the last two virus genera are known to infect Gram-negative bacterial hosts, including bft-positive enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and pks-positive genotoxic Escherichia coli, which are implicated in CRC development. Here, ARAF is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
