Carlson et al. (2006) suggested that valproate reduces brain infarction and neurological deficits through inhibiting caspase-3 activation and inducing chaperone proteins. Kindling adversely affects normal serotonergic transmission and produces excessive glucocorticoids; thus, contributing to aggravated fear and depressed mood (Baf, Subhash, Lakshmana, & Rao,1994; Wilson, McLaughlin, Ebenezer, Nair, & Francis, 2014; Maes, Calabrese, Jayathilake, & Meltzer,1997). This evidence concerns the gene CASP3 and brain infarction.
