Although these results suggest MEK/ERK as pharmacologically validated drug targets against echinococcosis, considering the relatively high LC50 values of U0126 presented in the in vitro studies and its modest in vivo effects, further improvements, such as improving its solubility and developing new formulations, are needed for the clinical use of U0126, and more efficient inhibitors against Echinococcus MEK/ERK signaling need to be identified and developed. The gene discussed is MAP2K7; the disease is echinococcosis.
