IFNL3 and infection: As proposed by Bhushan and Chinnaswamy (18), the presence of the major IFNL3 alleles (rs12979860 C allele and others in LD such as rs12980275 A allele) are linked to the IFNL4 rs11322783 (previously called rs368234815) TT allele, which avoids the expression of a functional IFNL4 protein, generating a set of ISGs that could result in a protective phenotype against infection (18).
