IL10 and Sepsis: More recently, it has become clear that sepsis is also associated with anti-inflammatory responses, characterized amongst others by the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10 and IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) and a reduced capacity of blood leukocytes to release proinflammatory cytokines in response to stimulation with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or other bacterial agonists (7–9, 12, 13).
