Recently, it was demonstrated that PKD1 deletion in adipocytes protects against obesity and diabetes, by inducing thermogenic adipocytes (beige cells) and promoting the expression of genes activating energy dissipation by adipocytes such as uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), PR-domain containing 16 (PRDM16) or peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1α (PGC1α) [79]. This evidence concerns the gene PRDM16 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
