In a population of about 600 ischemic stroke patients and in a period of 3 months after the event, approximately 40% of the patient population were classified to have post-stroke depression symptoms, and the MMP-9 level in these patients (658.8 ng/mL on average) were much higher than those identified without post-stroke depression (485.7 ng/mL on average) [143].
