In one study, the detection of Plasmodium HRP-2 protein in CSF, but not plasma, was associated with high mortality in cerebral malaria; thus, DNA detection in the CSF is quite plausible.50 Parvovirus B19 was quite common in older children and is well known to be able to cause meningitis.51 Group B Streptococcus meningitis was also detected and found predominantly among neonates, which is consistent with previous findings.14,52. This evidence concerns the gene HDGFL2 and infectious meningitis.
