The most frequently mutated genes include DNMT3A, TET2, JAK2, and ASXL1. Based on these three large studies, Steensma et al. proposed the term CHIP (clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential) for individuals harboring somatic mutations of genes frequently mutated in hematologic malignancies with a variant allele frequency (VAF) ≥ 2%, in the absence of definitive morphologic and clinical evidence of a hematologic malignancy [4].
