Further evidence that certain complement changes occur early in the psychosis spectrum comes from mass spectrometry-based proteomic studies in non-clinical general population samples showing differential expression of complement proteins in age 12 plasma samples from individuals who go on to report psychotic experiences at age 18 compared to controls who do not (English et al., 2018; Föcking et al., 2019). The gene discussed is VTN; the disease is psychotic disorder.
