Upon viral infections, particularly DNA viruses, stimulator of interferon genes (STING), an activated ER adaptor of the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-STING signaling pathway, translocates from the ER to the ER-Golgi-intermediate compartment (ERGIC) and the Golgi apparatus, and then activates downstream molecules [93,94,95].
