Furthermore, Zhi-Han et al. [33] found that PCSK9 seems to be a mediator of the inflammatory responses in the process of atherosclerosis, showing that the inactivation of the PCSK9 gene directly inhibits the formation of atherosclerotic plaques by reducing the severity of inflammation in blood vessels and inhibiting the toll-like receptor and NF-κB (nuclear factor kappa) light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells. Here, PCSK9 is linked to atherosclerosis.
