Consistently with the high inter- and intra-tumoral heterogenity of cutaneous melanomas, we have previously defined a subset of melanoma cells expressing strong levels of peanut agglutinin-receptors that possesses a high metastatic frequency [10] and correlates with poor patient survival [11], which simultaneously express Tetraspanin 8 (Tspan8) [12]. This evidence concerns the gene TSPAN8 and cutaneous melanoma.
