AKT1 and glaucoma: We have proven many times that BJYSP protects the optic nerve from glaucoma in a glaucoma rat model; that is, BJYSP results in upregulating retinal phosphorylation-protein kinase B (P-AKT) of phosphoinositide-3 kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling and slightly decreasing IOP [9], promoting the secretion of brain-derived neurotrophic growth factor (BDNF) and Nissl bodies [10, 11], increasing the numbers of RCGs, and improving the thickness of the retina nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and retinal ganglion cell layer (RGCL) and the ultrastructure of RCGs in a rat model of glaucoma [12].
