AGPS and cancer: Since the latter is established during the early steps of ether lipid synthesis (Figure S3), we explored the differences between the primary and cancer cell lines in the expression of enzymes involved in the synthesis of fatty alcohols and their insertion at the sn-1 position of the glycerol backbone, namely: fatty acyl-CoA reductase (FAR, isoforms 1 and 2), glycerone-phosphate O-acyltransferase (GNPAT), and alkylglycerone-phosphate synthase (AGPS) (Figure 5, Figure S4, Table S4).
