HAMD-21 and the subscale (core, sleep, activity, somatic anxiety, and delusion) scores were significantly and positively correlated with CSF HGF level in patients with MDD {r = 0.27, p = 0.008; r = 0.23, p = 0.023; r = 0.21, p = 0.041; r = 0.22, p = 0.034; r = 0.25, p = 0.015; r = 0.22, p = 0.030, Fig. 4 (MDD)}, while sleep score was significantly and positively correlated with CSF S100B and VEGF receptor 2 levels in patients with MDD {r = 0.22, p = 0.031 and r = 0.22, p = 0.028; Supplementary Fig. S1 (MDD)}. The gene discussed is HGF; the disease is major depressive disorder.
