At study baseline, compared to controls, women in the incident T2D group had higher BMI (p = 0.02), FPG, 2-hour plasma glucose (2hPG), fasting insulin, and 2-hour insulin (all p-values < 0.001), and higher fasting triacylglycerol (TAG) (p = 0.005), fasting ln triglycerides (p = 0.002), homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) (p < 0.001), and percentage of kilocalories as animal fat in dietary intake (p = 0.006), but lower fasting high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (p = 0.008) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (p = 0.044).
