Several single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of SELP have been shown to be associated with risk of different atherosclerotic as well as inflammatory diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, T2DM, CAD, CHD, ischemic stroke and systemic lupus erythematous, peripheral artery disease in different populations [26, 34–42]. The gene discussed is SELP; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
