PKM and cancer: The nuclear-translocated PKM2 facilitates the transcriptional activation of β-catenin and signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5), and enables the expression of several genes, including cyclin D1, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), PKM2, glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1), and cMyc, to redirect the glucose metabolism that is essential for cancer progression (Prakasam et al., 2018).
