In TNF-induced lethal hepatitis, MMP-8-deficient mice showed impaired leukocyte influx and neutrophil-specific chemokine release implicating that, rather than influencing the hepatitis-induced hepatocyte necrosis as previously thought, MMP-8 plays a pivotal role in regulating acute inflammation (Figure 2) [65].
