Pentraxins are essential components of the innate immunity response and aredivided into short pentraxins such as CRP, mainly produced by liver cells inresponse to IL-6 and long PTX3.15 Whereas both CRP and PTX3 are well-known biomarkers of inflammation andpredict prognosis in cardiovascular disease,18,19 the long PTX3 differs fromCRP, in gene organization, chromosomal localization, cellular sources and in theability to induce stimuli and recognize ligands.20 This evidence concerns the gene PTX3 and cardiovascular disorder.
