In obesity, adipokines are dysregulated, whereby inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, IFN-γ, and IL-1β are upregulated, resulting in a state of chronic low-grade inflammation called metabolic inflammation which underlies pathophysiology of obesity and metabolic syndrome [8,9]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
