It has been shown that, compared to healthy women of reproductive age, PCOS patients have increased blood levels of lymphocyte and monocyte counts, as well as elevated levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), proinflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF- α), interleukins (IL-1, IL-6, IL-18)) and high levels of lipid peroxidation, protein carbonylation products and advanced oxidation protein products [10,11]. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and polycystic ovary syndrome.
