The experiment revealed that MEWG inhibited metastasis and angiogenesis in human laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (Hep-2), probably via inhibition of the upstream phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/AKT) pathway and by decreasing vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), and inflammatory marker protein cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
