As a proof for NAFLD development in TGR(mREN2)27 rats we demonstrated an increase in hepatic fat content and hepatic mRNA and protein expression of two key genes involved in lipogenesis; sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c) and fatty acid synthase (FAS) (Figure 4). The gene discussed is FAS; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
