Further supporting the lack of macrophage death due to competition for glucose, expression of fungal glycolytic enzymes, including ATP-dependent 6-phosphofructokinase (pfkA) and hexokinase-1 (hxkA), was not significantly modulated during infection (Supplementary Fig. 1d), a finding in line with the negligible amount of lactate measured during fungal culture (Supplementary Fig. 1e).
