SIRT3 and Huntington disease: Some recent findings demonstrated that SIRT3 overexpression could prevent neuronal derangements in certain in vivo and in vitro models of aging and neurodegenerative brain disorders, including AD, PD, HD, TBI, stroke, etc. Similarly, loss of SIRT3 has been found to accelerate neurodegeneration in the brain challenged with excitotoxicity, which may explain the increase of SIRT3 levels found in the Wang’s et al. study [51] of TBI and its treatment with fucoidan, described above.
