SLCO1B1 and rhabdomyolysis: Our analysis of eight cases from VigiBase (World Health Organization's global Individual Case Safety Report database), describing drug-drug interactions (DDI) between rosuvastatin and ticagrelor that lead to rhabdomyolysis, pointed to several potential aspects that may result in the onset of rhabdomyolysis: old age, very high dose of rosuvastatin, DDI at the level of drug metabolic enzymes (CYPs and UGTs) and drug transporters (ABCB1, ABCG2, OATP1B1) in addition to pharmacogenetic susceptibility (55).
