CD4 and tuberculosis: The STAMP trial evaluated the use of the Alere Determine TB-LAM Ag assay and Xpert MTB/RIF among HIV-positive patients hospitalized in Malawi and South Africa [12] and demonstrated reduced all-cause 56-day mortality with urine-based TB-LAM screening in certain high-risk subgroups of those with CD4 T-cell counts <100 cells/μL, severe anemia (hemoglobin <8 g/dL), or clinically suspected TB.
