Published data, including a 2016 Cochrane review, demonstrate that the first-generation Alere Determine TB-LAM Ag assay (TB-LAM; Alere, Waltham, MA) has a sensitivity of 40%–70% and a specificity of ≥98% in TB/HIV-coinfected patients with CD4 counts <100 cells/μL [9–11]. Here, CD4 is linked to tuberculosis.
