Hsu et al. compared cardiac specific Sirt1-knockout mice with cardiac-specific Sirt1-overexpressing ones and observed a significant increase in myocardial infarction size in cardiac-Sirt1−/− mice comparing to the overexpressing group; upregulated expression of prosurvival molecules, MnSOD, thioredoxin1, and Bcl-xL, along with downregulation of proapoptotic molecules Bax and cleaved caspase-3 was reported in Sirt1+ animals. Here, SIRT1 is linked to myocardial infarction.
