GBA1 and Parkinson disease: GBA1 heterozygous carriers have an increased chance of developing either PD or dementia with Lewy bodies at an earlier age of onset, a higher risk for progression to dementia, visual hallucinations, autonomic dysfunction and faster progression of motor symptoms than non-carriers, and an overall decreased survival rate (Winder-Rhodes et al., 2013; Cilia et al., 2016).
