Our results are consistent with prior findings that ACPPs can be cleaved by secreted MMP-2/-9 and the released CPPs are incorporated into cells displaying the gelatinase activity, for example, tumor cells (Jiang et al., 2004; Aguilera et al., 2009; Olson et al., 2009) and ischemic zones (Chen et al., 2017).
