VEGFA and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Although VEGF can act on different neuronal types (Storkebaum et al., 2004; Cabezas et al., 2019), a clear link has been established between VEGF and motoneurons (Lladó et al., 2013), mainly due to the appearance of symptoms resembling ALS when the levels of VEGF are low, as is the case for the VEGFδ/δ mutant mice.
