Anemia is one of the most common complications in HM patients, which can be caused by the decreased hematopoietic capacity of bone marrow, blood dilution, repeated blood collection, iron metabolism dysfunction, decreased erythrocyte survival and a slow erythropoietin response et al. A Korean study reports that anemia was more common in HM patients than in patients with solid tumors (79.4% vs. 50.4%), and HM patients also share a higher risk of AKI and long-term mortality [30]. This evidence concerns the gene EPO and anemia.
