HIF1A and neoplasm: Concordantly, and primarily through its tight interaction with endothelial HIF-1, NO is recognized as an important regulator of oncogenic pathways controlling tumor spreading, including S-nitrosylation of adherent junction complexes, promotion of EMT, invasion and dissemination through changes in tumor cell adhesion to endothelial cells, intra- and extravasation, as well as endothelial cell permeability [92,93] (Figure 5).
