Although estrogen and estrogen receptors (α and β) are involved in the pathology of thyroid cancer [12,13] and androgen receptor (AR) has been first evidenced for the expression of both normal thyroid tissue and malignant thyroid tumors [14,15,16], less is known about the roles of these sex hormone receptors in the development and progression of PTC.
