Human ASCs transduced with a lentiviral vector for CTLA-4 Ig overexpression, when transplanted into a mouse model of sustained severe collagen induced arthritis, are able to enable CTLA-4 binding to CD28, which results in the induction of T-cell clonal anergy and the amelioration of autoimmune disease (Choi et al., 2016). The gene discussed is CTLA4; the disease is autoimmune disease.
