X‐linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X‐ALD) is a neurodegenerative disease (OMIM #300100) caused by mutations in the ATP‐binding cassette subfamily D member 1 (ABCD1) gene, which encodes a peroxisomal transporter crucial for the import of coenzyme A‐activated very long‐chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) into peroxisomes for degradation.1, 2, 3. Here, ABCD1 is linked to neurodegenerative disease.
