Surprisingly, the mitochondrial Ca2+ uniporter (Mcu) and its regulatory subunits (Micu1, Micu2, Micu3 and Smdt1) are significantly downregulated (p < 0.05 and FDR < 25%) in AD compared to control subjects after adjusting for neuronal loss with the pan-neuronal marker Map2 (Supplementary Fig. 9, Supplementary Table 1). The gene discussed is MICU3; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
